A few photos from back in September
This small collection of photos were taken back in September, firstly some of our local common in Liss Forest, Hampshire and a visit to The Championship for horse ploughing.
Time to eat
This is one of the many cows that roam around the local common, we very often bump into them on our walk and my dog Jess seems to like trying to round them up.
Memorial to a WW2 bomber pilot
This is the memorial to Richard Pryce-Hughes a Canadian pilot who crashed at this spot in April 1942. After the crew from the burning Halifax bomber bailed out he then made sure the bomber cleared all the surrounding villages including our village of Liss in Hampshire. This is where the pilot lost his life.
The plaque
This is a close up of the memorial plaque.
A tractor hiding
We very often come across military vehicles on the common but it’s not very often we come across a tractor but today he was cutting the hedges.
Hello
Jess enjoying yet another walk.
Hello again
After a long walk Jess had a rest while I took some photos.
Resting before we plough again
This is a pair of the horses that were at the ploughing championship held back in September not to far away from where we live at Rogate so we thought we would go and take a look.
The Fuller's horses
These are the Fuller's horses and cart which travel the country.
6 in hand
This was a really lovely site, 6 horses ploughing. There was only one chap driving them and I think just one other chap walking along side them. What a site! All that horse power at one chaps finger tips...
From the other side
Gentle giants
Two beautiful gentle giants taken on the ploughing challenge.
Across the common
The next two pictures were taken form the same spot but a few months apart.
This one was taken in September....
Snowy across the common
...and this one was taken today January 7th 2010, after the heavy snow in the south.
More snow photos next time.
