Loxwood Canal and Brewhurst Mill
This week’s photos are of The Wey and Arun Canal in Loxwood, West Sussex.
We were there for the day and had a most pleasant time enjoying the canal and also Brewhurst mill which was opened to the public for a few hours.

This is the view back towards the pub from the top of the lock.
Brewhurst Mill
This is the mill that sits on the edge of the canal and it is believed to have stood here from the early 1500's. In 1890 there was a major fire in the top two floors of the mill just leaving the existing brickwork. The mill then had a major refurbishment in 1928 including some modernisation which included a 41HP Blackstone oil engine being installed to drive the machinery at the mill. By the early 90’s the mill had finished work but now on occasion the doors are open again and the Blackstone is put into action to turn the cogs once more. It’s a wonderful piece of history to still be able to go and see.
The Water Wheel
The remains of this wheel are thought to date from 1840.

Grapes on the vine
As we walked by we could see that this vine was covered in grapes.

Steam Engines
This was the reason for us being at the canal in Loxwood. More steam engines from here next week!
