Lands End and Lizzard Point
A look back at some pictures I took while down in Cornwall a few months ago.
Looking out to Longships Lighthouse
Here we are looking out from Lands End to the Longships Light house and rocks. The original light house was built in 1795 but this is so what more modern and has been unmaned since 1988. The range of the flash is 11 nautical miles and flashes every 10 seconds and last for 5 seconds. Ship wrecks around this lighthouse include in 1898 S.S. Blue Jacket and in 1901 "Mary James"
The Wakelins at Lands End
The RSPB hut
We spent a wonderful hour or so in this hut looking out to sea watching birds etc, the lady who was in duty in there was great with the children Harry our youngest really enjoyed it and is now a RSPB member.
The rough seas
Looking around the edge of the rocks and the sea crashing against them makes for a great picture.
Longships Lighthouse
The light house sits one and a quarter mile of the shore line.
St Micaels Mount
On a very cloundy over cast day St Micaels Mount sitting in the sea. This tidel island sits just off the coast of Cornwall and at low tide can be walked to on the causeway that strectes out to it. As the weather wasn't great we decided not to bother.
Sammy the Seagull
Lizard Point life boat stations
This was once the life boat station for Lizard point. Here you can see 2 buildings, the one to the left of the picture was built in 1885 and used for many years as the station but in 1914 the lower building was built and was now home for the life boat.
Looking out to sea
Looking towards Lizards Point Lighthouse
The original lighthouse was built in 1620 but the one that stands there now was built in 1752. It gives a white flash of light every 3 seconds and the fog horn sounds twice every 60 seconds. The walk from the life boat station to the Lighthouse is right along the cliff top and is wonderful but be very careful with small children and dogs..
